How to Access Doctor, Nurse or Health Care Assistant Appointments

All surgeries are by appointment only.

Pre-Covid 19  - You may arrange a routine review with any Doctor within the practice. Please advise the receptionist of your preference.

During Covid-19 pandemic - for safety reasons, to reduce risk to our vulnerable patients, the majority of our appointments are telephone, with the option to convert to a video call if appropriate and assuming technology allows. We are still seeing patients in the surgery face-to-face if there is a clinical need and they have no symptoms of, or have active covid-19 infection. If you require an examination and have active covid-19 infection, we may ask you to wait in your car rather than enter the building and the doctor will advise further on the safest way to conduct your examination.

The Doctors  and clinical pharmacist usually allow 10 minutes for each consultation. Some Nurse appointments may be longer eg chronic disease reviews.

You will be asked about the kind of problem or symptoms you have when making an appointment. This enables us to offer you the most appropriate help or appointment. All such discussions are strictly confidential. 

Emergency appointments with a GP should be used for the specific illness for which you require a same day appointment. They are at 10 minute intervals and you are requested to consult only about the emergency problem. Should you need to discuss other matters with your GP, it is recommended that you make a routine appointment at another time.

Please also remember that due to the nature of emergency appointments, individual medical cases may necessitate longer appointments which may cause delays. When these occur we do appreciate your understanding.

Missed appointments waste valuable clinical time. If you are not able to make your appointment, please do call us as soon as possible to let us know, as we may be able to offer your appointment to another patient.

The time allowed for nurse appointments varies according to the reason for the appointment our reception staff will ask about the problem to ensure the correct time is allocated to you for your appointment.


There are occasions when patients need to be examined by a doctor which may involve intimate examinations. It is usual for another person to be present at these times to safeguard the doctor and the patient — a chaperone.

A doctor will usually suggest a chaperone for these examinations, although you may choose to decline. At any time, if you wish a chaperone to be present please do not hesitate to ask the doctor. It may not be possible for a chaperone to be provided immediately and you may have to return for the examination to be carried out at a mutually convenient time.

Telephone Consultation Appointments with the Doctors and Pharmacist

Patients can pre-book a telephone consultation to discuss:

  • Ongoing, and new health problems, both physical and psychological.

  • Medication reviews (clinical pharmacist)
